A student of drumming for 35 years, Micah constructed his first drum set at age five from a collection of tupperware bowls and pan lids. A strong school music program, and generous mentorship (Shawn Pelton, Kenwood Dennard, Kenny Aronoff) paved the way for early performances with jazz luminaries David Baker, Dave Liebman, James Moody and Red Rodney. Micah attended Indiana University on a jazz studies scholarship and later landed in Chicago where he immersed himself in the rich jazz, funk and soul traditions that still survive there. He has studied tabla and North Indian classical music, West African drumming and dance in Ghana, royal Ugandan court music, and is certified in the Orff Schulwerk approach to teaching music in the classroom. Micah teaches drum set at the Alameda School of Music, and general music and movement classes at Montessori Family School in El Cerrito, Mulberry School in Berkeley, Duck's Nest Preschool in Berkeley and Oakland and Alameda Christian School. His current musical projects include My 3 Sons, Terrence Brewer, The Pentatonics and Project Pimento.
